Day 2 - Lejog 2024
On Day 2 of our epic journey from Lands End to John O'Groats, we tackled the challenging route from Fowey to Moretonhampstead. Covering a distance of 60 miles with an impressive elevation gain of 2051m, this leg was reputed to be the toughest yet most rewarding part of our adventure.
Overview of the day
What a day. We started off with a short ferry from Fowey before tackling our first lung busting climb of the day. Our first climb of 17 categorised as tough in the day. There were plenty of great sea views as we cycled through Polperro and Looe before a welcome break at Seaton. The hills got tougher as we made our way to our 2nd ferry ride taking the Cremyl ferry over to P!ymouth for our lunch stop at a cafe close to the dockside. Navigating around Plymouth proved a bit problematic but after a few Uturns, we enjoyed our easiest cycling on the Plym Valley cycleway to Yelverton. The biggest hills were still to come including a monster assent to the high moorland of Dartmoor with wonderful views. What a relief to see the Peak Tours van at the top of the hill providing much needed snacks. Still more climbs followed on the 12 mile undulating road to our final destination at Moretonhampstead. An exhausting day but a real sense of achievement
