Day 5 - Lejog 2024
It's Day 5 of the cycling adventure where we moved out of Wales into Herefordshire before ending the day in Bishops Castle in Shropshire. In total we cycled 65 miles with only a few hills to tackle and mostly on quiet country roads. The day started in beautiful sunshine as we made our way to Hereford. There were a few bemused looks at Sainsbury's as our group of lycra clad middle aged cyclists made use of the facilities. It was then into our lunch stop at The New Inn at Pembridge - hardly a new inn as it dates back to the 15th and 16th century. The apple crumble and cream was a delight. We stopped off to view the Bell Tower which rises in three timber framed stages from an octagonal stone base. How it was erected without any mechanical aids was quite mind boggling. As we left for the 2nd half of the day, we thought a severe downpour had passed over. However, within a few minutes we were caught with heavy rainfall and a driving wind. Fortunately, the rain soon abated and we enjoyed sunshine for the remaining miles to our guest house in Bishops Castle. Jerry, the lady of the house, couldn't have been more welcoming with tea and lemon drizzle cake. And even an offer to wash our dirty laundry. The day was rounded off with a meal in The Three Tuns. Colin's order was overlooked with profuse apologies and a meal on the house. His cheapest meal on the trip.

Raising Money for worthwhile causes - Samaras Aid
The other charity I am raising money for is Samaras Aid which provides humanitarian relief for Syrian refugees. Set up by Samara Levy a young housewife in Brighton in response to seeing the plight of Syrians caught up in the civil war. It started by collecting good quality second hand clothes and has now expanded to providing Orphans and Widows centres, quality medical care and a bakery plus much much more. The charity celebrates its 10th anniversary next month. To donate to go the link www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/lejog2024
