Day 4 of Lejog 2024
Welcome to Day 4 of our epic cycling adventure from Lands End to John O'Groats! Today, we travelled from Street to the beautiful destination of Monmouth - 69 miles in total. Known as the Tourist Day as there are many wonderful sights to see, it didn't disappoint. Despite a bruising buffeting wind, it was the easiest leg so far with only one significant climb after viewing the magnificent Wells cathedral. We cycled over two spectacular bridges - the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and then into Wales on a cycleway across the Seven Bridge. Our welcome to Wales had a sting in the tail as there was a torrential hailstorm. But this quickly cleared with the sun reappearing so that we could enjoy the beauty of the Wye Valley as we made our way to our final destination in Monmouth.
Notable Landmarks
A day of stunning scenery and wonderful sights. The Mendip hills, Brune!'s legendary Clifton Suspension Bridge, Long Ashton Park ( which 3 of our party remembered running around competing in the National Cross Country Championships ), Seven Bridge, Tintern Abbey and the inspiring beauty of the Wye Valley.

Our accommodation
Our accommodation has all been pre booked by our Peak Tour reps. Most are in pubs with great names such as The Galleon Inn, White Hart Hotel, The Bear Inn and the Kings Head. At one of the pubs, we were greeted by a manager who was clearly keen to ensure everything was done to make the guests welcome. He was so effusive in his manner that it brought back memories of Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. As fate transpired, the fire alarm was accidentally set off. The manager went into overdrive rushing around the hotel with flailing arms extolling that it was not a real fire alarm. John Cleese couldn't have done a better job!
Raising money for worthwhile causes - Christians Against Poverty
I'm raising money for two worthwhile causes. Christians Against Poverty ( CAP ) is in its 28th year providing personalised debt counselling for clients struggling with unmanageable debt and money management courses to help people keep in control of their finances. CAP has a network of 270 Debt centres covering most parts of the UK. It also has presence in Australia, New Zealand and Canada and most recently in the USA. Money raised will be shared between the local CAP Centre in my home town in Croydon and the national work across the rest of the UK. To donate go to www.justgiving.com/page/nigellejog2024
