Day 9 - Lejog 2024
What a difference a day makes. Today, we had beautiful sunshine and even had suntan cream to apply!! The wind was light and it was a joy to be out on the bike. We made our way close to Carlisle before crossing the border into Scotland at Gretna Green, renowned for a popular place to tie the knot. We saw our first Scottish Loch at Lochhaben, where there was also an impressive statue of Robert the Bruce. It is thought he was born in Turnbury Castle but there is a local tradition that he was born at Lochhaben, where his family had a castle. One of our party is Bruce from Auckland so we couldn't miss the opportunity to picture him in front of the statue. The rest of the ride was on a road with stunning scenery of the council area of Dumfries and Galloway, completing our ride of 73 miles in the lovely town of Moffat.

The Star Hotel - Moffat
Our evening meal was at The Star Hotel. At only 20 foot wide and 162 feet long, it is mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's narrowest detached hotel. It was certainly a quirky place to enjoy a well deserved 3 course meal! Some even opted for the local delicacy of haggis. When we explained to our friend from Colorado the ingredients, she remarked ' holy cow'!! Needless to say she did not take up the opportunity to have a taste!!
