Day 3 - Lejog 2024

 Our days cycling

On Day 3 of the Lejog 2024 journey, we set off from the picturesque town of Moretonhampstead, ready to take on another challenging day of riding. We made our way to the outskirts of Exeter with 3 tough hills to tackle. It was then an easier ride navigating on cycle lanes around Exeter and some lovely quiet country lanes. There was one other monster hill - the toughest yet to complete. The gradient at one stage was close to 20% and it took over 10 minutes to get to the top. Rain was in the air which meant a soggy finish at Street as we moved from Cornwall to Devon. 72 miles in total - our longest leg so far. Photo below view of Exeter Cathedral

Cycling Etiquette

One of the customs for cyclists is to let fellow cyclists know of any potential obstacles. Arm signals are used for any pot holes that need to be avoided. Also shouts for car behind and any animals on the road. So far we have had cows, sheep and today there was a shout of 'horse. A lot of hilarity as the famous line in Richard 3 was the response - A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse'

The Peak Tours Support team

We are being very well looked after by our 3 Peak Tour guides - Jim, Dave and Mick. One rides each day to help with any mechanical issues. The others help driving the  van to the various stops providing loads of snacks for hungry cyclists. And when we reach our destination our heavy bags have been taken to our hotel rooms. Definitely the unsung heroes of the tour. At our last stop today, we were greeted by a lovely lady who lives in the village outside where the van was parked. She kindly opened the Methodist chapel so cyclists needing to spend a penny could use the toilets. And she enjoyed her chats especially with our Kiwi  tourist as she has friends in Auckland
