Day 7 Lejog 2024
It's Day 7 and we are now halfway through our epic adventure. In total we have climbed 33900 feet and cycled 492 miles. Today was just perfect. The weather was dry with alot of sun and there was a very light wind. We left Runcorn and made our way to Warrington before heading into the beautiful countryside around Bolton and Blackburn. And then the highlight of the day as we had wonderful views of the Forest of Bowland, rightly recognised as an area of outstanding beauty. We finished our ride at Lancaster staying at the very impressive Lancaster House which adjoins the University. If you are ever up that way, I would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel. It was a bit incongruous that all our bikes were stored in the Bowland Suite which I'm sure has hosted many prestigious events.
Our Route to Lands End
Our tour is organised to avoid as many major roads as possible. Most of the route is on cycleways, quiet country roads and off road tracks. It is a great way to see the UK. Each day is split into four sections of 15 to 20 miles. There are snacks available and a welcome hot drink at the morning and afternoon stops. And a great spread of food at a country pub at lunchtime. The Peak Tours team can be contacted to help with any mechanical issues which cannot easily be sorted out and provide a replacement bike, where further work is required. Most of us have Garmin Sat Nav devices with the route pre-loaded. Even then, it is not uncommon to go off course at some times!! It must have been an extra challenge before the technology was available.
